Pain Don't Hurt: Cancer Does
by Charles McCarthy

Jimmy: Prepare to die.
Dalton: You are such an asshole.

Wouldn't it be great if Patrick Swayze's fight with pancreatic cancer was as simple as this bit of dialogue from his 1988 hit, "Road House," but cancer isn't simple, and he needs all the love and support we can give him as fans.

Chris Cantey saw this need to support the 55 year old actor. Cantey scraped together his indian head pennies and produced the first batch of "Swayze" bracelets. The bracelets are rubber bands similar to the Lance Armstrong, "Live Strong" bracelets, but they are green, glow in the dark, and simply read, "Swayze."

"Patrick Swayze is one of my biggest heros. He has taught me caboodles of things about life from how to pull off a feathered mullet, to when or when not to rip out another man's throat. He is a great guy, and we need to support him in his time of need," Cantey soberly mused with a tear in his eye. "Lance Armstrong won the Tour De France. Swayze taught a shy girl how to dance, saved his girlfriend with his soul, and robbed banks with so much finesse and coolness that he made me, us, all of us want to learn how to surf."

While Swayze continues to struggle on, keeping up appearances by continuing to smoke and swagger, he obviously has a tough road ahead of him. Pancreatic cancer is no joke, even if most of us don't know what the pancreas does, and it is a funny word to say. Try it. We need to all get out there and show Swayze that we care about his silly sounding cancer, that we care about him, that we don't want to go see another sequel of one of his movies staring his stunt man - see Road House 2: Last Call (2006) - and we will all miss his sexy smile.

Cantey is selling these Swayze support bracelets for $10 each. A portion of the proceeds go to the Pancreatic Cancer Fund (www.nfcr.org) while the rest are going towards Cantey's ballroom dance lessons. To purchase a bracelet keep your eyes peeled for Cantey's maroon 2002 Toyota Corolla parked near the corner of Franklin and Gower in Hollywood.

"It's not a great location, but it's not the worst location to be rallying support for Patrick. After all, nobody puts Swayze in a corner! " Cantey projected with enthusiasm and hope, standing on the corner of Franklin and Gower.

Thanks Charles. That being said, here you go.
